Here is a brief overview of the basic levels of consciousness by GI Gurdjieff. The first level of consciousness is the night of sleep, the lowest state of consciousness. The second is the normal state of consciousness Daily consciousness. In this state, although we are growing in terms of night sleep, this vigilance is only relative, because we deal mostly reactive and instinctive. We remain prisoners of our own, because old programs and pain control us. It is difficult at first to regard the state as one of only relative alertness, but if we start with the self-observation, are we shocked to see of what we do.
The third state of consciousness is the awareness of ourselves, where we begin to recognize our reactive action and ways of thinking and rise above our automatic self. It is the first awake. The fourth and highest state of consciousness is the objective. We see all things, unfiltered as they really are. This condition can hardly be described in words as it is an experience of unity consciousness, in which we are one with the source that created us. The awakening of consciousness is thus an internal step that will lead you out of the normal daily consciousness in the first waking, and out into the further development of it, until you're awake in love. This is the way of a mental "be crazy" in your normal state return.
